About the Founder

Evangelist Garlena Hines is a prime example of God turning your “mess into a miracle producing a powerful ministry”.  Because of the pain endured through sexual abuse, God has given Evangelist Hines a passion to minister to those who are bound by this demon.  From the ages of 5 to 19 Evangelist Hines was repeated abused sexually by persons who were looked upon as friends and her favorite cousin, whom she trusted as her “father figure”.  As a “wounded healer” she has overcome molestation, incest, child pornography, battles with thoughts of a lesbian lifestyle, rape and the trauma of losing her twins in the same week.  After years of battling with low self esteem, insecurity, jealousy, promiscuity, addiction to food and being diagnosed as morbidly obese, she found healing through the LOVE of Jesus Christ.  Because of her spiritual upbringing it was never recommended that she deal with these past issues.  Those responsible for molding her spiritually simply encouraged her to forget the pain and move on with her future.  But she understood that until she was healed from her past demons, she would be unable to move into her promising future.  After battling with depression and a suicide attempt, she began attending Christian counseling and therapy where she was taught to leave her pain at “foot of the cross”.  It was through these sessions that she learned the true definition of forgiveness and the power of love.  Evangelist Hines understands that “you can’t conquer what you won’t confront”; therefore, her mission is to be transparent so that those who are broken will be healed.

Her testimony is powerful and has set many free.  She understands that you overcome by the words of your testimony and through the blood of the Lamb.  Many have been delivered from the disgrace and pain of sexual abuse and she gives GOD all of the GLORY.   As a result of the healing power of Jesus Christ, Evangelist Hines released her first book entitled I Am NOT A Mistake, I Am Meant To Be in January 2008Because of the passion in which she shares and the power in the writings, Evangelist Hines was interviewed by The700 Club and the initial viewing aired October 22, 2009.  After the plan of salvation was given 1,129 souls were led to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.  Because it was the highest single rated testimony, the show re-aired on January 4, 2010 and was the highest "viewed" segment from the program for that day.   Evangelist Hines was also featured in the February-April 2010 issue of Blessed Lifestyle magazine.  In addition to ministering to women, Evangelist Hines is a member and licensed minister at Grove Church in Portsmouth, Virginia where Dr. Melvin O. Marriner is the senior pastor.  She is the coordinator and instructor of the New Members’ Ministry and is a part of the “Keepers of the Flame” ministerial staff.   She is also an active member of the Health and Wellness Ministry.  Evangelist Hines also serves as a mentor for many girls’ groups in the Tidewater area and recently started the G. L. Hines Ministries Support Group.  This group was started as a way to allow those who desire healing to come and share of their pain and be led to the ultimate healer.  The mission of G. L. Hines Ministries is to release the transforming power of Jesus Christ by reaching those who are broken and damaged, ministering the word so that ALL will be delivered and pushed to another level of divine faith in GOD, and being transparent while ministering, for it is only when we are “real” that we open the door for deliverance.

Evangelist Hines earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Personnel Management, Industrial Relations from Norfolk State University.  As a result of her desire to enhance her ministry through higher learning she is currently pursuing a Masters of Arts Degree in Christian counseling with a focus on marriage and the family from Liberty University.  Evangelist Hines has been employed by the U.S. Government for 30 years.

Evangelist Hines can be best described by Psalms 34:1, “I will bless the LORD at all times and His praise shall continually be in my mouth”.   Evangelist Hines resides in Chesapeake, Virginia with her daughter Loneka Tashay.
